trying my hand at poetry

i was cleaning out our home office today (which has never really functioned as an office... think "junk room") to surprise kate when she gets home. everyone clap for the good husband ;) just kidding... kind of.

anyway, while i was cleaning i found an old poem (date unknown) i had written. it is MLK Jr. themed so i thought i'd share it 3 days after we celebrated his life. i'm always a little behind, give me a break. anyway, the love that's being shown in haiti the world over has changed my opinion that i share in this, quite honestly, bitter poem. however, i hope just as king had hope because i believe Jesus brings hope. enough chit chat... here are the goods!

dr. king had a dream
and it was satisfied.
now if you're white, you're black
and all our skin is dyed.

instead of protestant vs. catholic
it's muslim against christian.
we used to share the DREAM
now we all have our mission.

i thought we were all God's children
not a divided world or nation
but everyone's resilience
is strained by lives of separation.

let's all join hands and sing,
sing that we are "free at last"
but we can't say the words
without lying about our past.

so king's dream is still a dream
yet to accomplish anything
'cause we still hate our friends
and any dream they bring.
